세 번째 것은 장기적 사고다. 그것은 엄청난 지렛대다.

나는 한 번 워런 버핏에게 왜 더 많은 사람들이 당신의 투자 전략을 따라 하지 않느냐고 물은 적이 있다.   원칙적으로 보면 그렇게 이해하기 어려운 것도 아닌데 말이다.

그랬더니 그는 이렇게 말했다.
“아, 제프, 그건 아주 간단하네. 내 방식은 천천히 부자가 되는 방법 이거든. 사람들은 그런 걸 좋아하지 않아.”

그리고 사실 이 말에는 모든 일에 적용되는 많은 진실이 담겨 있다.
만약 3년이 아니라 7년을 기준으로 생각할 수 있고,
즉각적인 만족을 미루고 장기적으로 생각할 수 있다면,
그것만으로도 대부분의 경쟁자들보다 앞서 나갈 수 있다.
왜냐하면 대부분의 사람들은 그렇게 하지 못하기 때문이다.

It’s not that difficult to understand in principle. And he said, “Oh, Jeff, that’s easy. My approach is a get-rich slowly scheme. People don’t like those.”

And so but there’s a lot of truth in that for everything which is if you can think in terms of seven years instead of three years and you can defer gratification and think long term that will give you a head start against all of your competitors because most people can’t do that
